A factory with no designer: what do you do when a buyer wants new designs?
A small factory has three ways to get a new design: copy what is on the market, hire an outside designer, or employ one. What each costs, which step AI renders can take over and which they cannot, and how to try it the first time.

Short answer: a new design is two jobs, "come up with it and show the buyer" and "draw it up and sample it". The first no longer needs a designer: a batch of original renders in minutes for the buyer to choose from. The second is still your sample room's job. The first job is the one factories are short on, because a buyer waits days, not weeks, and that job used to be the slow one.
The three old routes and where each gets stuck
When a buyer asks an OEM factory "what else have you got?" and the answer is nothing new, there are three options:

They share one problem: the order of operations. Each spends money and time to make something first, then asks the buyer whether they want it. One "not the feel I wanted" and the spend is gone. Meanwhile the buyer's patience is usually a few days.
A new design is two jobs
Split "make a new design" in two:
- Come up with it and show the buyer: what it looks like, which material, which graphic, which customer. The output is an image the buyer can read and sign off on.
- Draw it up and sample it: dimensions, pattern pieces, sewing sequence, materials. The output is engineering drawings and a sample.
These two used to be one job for a designer or pattern maker, which is why it was slow. AI renders take the first job: starting from the factory's own options (form, fabric, compartments, hardware, audience), a batch of mutually different original proposals in minutes, drawn to the point where construction is readable. The second job does not change; it still goes to your sample room, only now the buyer has already said yes.

What it does not replace
To set expectations straight:
- Not your sample room. A render is not an engineering drawing; dimensions and pattern pieces come from your maker, and sampling is unchanged. See can renders go to tooling.

How to try it the first time
Nothing to learn up front. Take one buyer who is waiting on new designs right now and walk through this:
- Pick the category you make and tap a few options, or tap "pick for me". If the buyer asked for something specific, type it under special requirements.
- Wait a few minutes and get four designs. Send all four; do not pre-filter.
- When the buyer picks one, generate more angles, put their logo on it, and send again.
- Once the buyer says yes, hand the images to your maker for dimensions and structure, then sample.
